THEMED EVENTS
As the Summer season gets well and truly underway, the region we love so much has something for everyone.
Scarborough’s Seafest takes place on 14th, 15th and 16th July 2023. This annual event celebrates all things maritime in the town including food, drink, music, exhibitions and more. It’s a free-to-enter event and takes place on Scarborough’s West Pier, close to the harbour and seafront areas: Find out more, me hearties!

A visit to Scarborough in the summer just isn’t complete without experiencing the Naval Warfare. It takes place on Mondays, Thursday and Saturdays in July and August: Find out more here.
AGRICULTURAL SHOWS
Once the largest one-day shows in the country, Driffield Show takes place at Driffield Showground on Wednesday 19th July: Find out about ticket prices here. Other shows include Ryedale show on Tuesday 25th July, and Thornton le Dale show on Wednesday 9thAugust 2023.
Steam Fair – Driffield’s famous Steam Fair take place on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th August at the Driffield Showground.
Beverley Races – Our closest racecourse near the stunning market town of Beverley hosts a varied season of horse racing.
In July, the Coconut Cup Race Day takes place on Saturday 8th, with afternoon racing on Tuesday 18th July, and an evening meet on Monday 24th July.
August is no less busy, with the Family Funday on 1st August, Ladies Day on Wednesday 16th August, afternoon racing on Thursday 17th and a Family Funday on Sunday 27th August: Find out more here.
Visit Hull
Hull’s entertainment scene is hard to beat with its excellent Museums Quarter including Wilberforce House, the Hull and East Riding Museum and the Streetlife Museum of Transport. Hull also boasts The Deep, one of the UK’s largest aquariums: More information.
Cultural Scarborough
In the opposite direction, Scarborough is a short drive away and includes its own Art Gallery and The Rotunda Museum both of which include fascinating exhibits.
Stately Homes and Country Houses – With vast estates and elegant rooms, East Yorkshire is particularly blessed with some stunning stately homes or country houses that are open to the public.
Sledmere House is a short drive away – Home to the Tatton Sykes family, whose history can be traced back to the 1500s, Sledmere House dates from the Georgian period but was gutted by fire in 1911 and was restored afterwards. Burton Constable is another stunning country house which has welcomed the 21st Century with its popular outdoor cinema showing family favourites and box office hits: Whats on.
Sewerby Hall and Gardens is another firm favourite here in East Yorkshire. With its house, gardens and zoo, it’s a venue with a varied offering: Find out more here.
Fun in Filey
This lovely fishing town boasts some fabulous beaches and the famous Filey Brigg (always be aware of the tides). Filey is also becoming very well known for its Food Festivals, which take place several times a year. The next dates are 12th and 13th August , followed by October 14th and 15th 2023. It’s free to attend and offers over 70 stalls of delicious food, drink, street food and more: Filey International Food Festival.

Malton and Pickering
Malton is sometimes referred to as Yorkshire’s Food Capital, this market town include monthly food markets and food festivals: Check out whats on.
Pickering is also a lovely town to visit, with its castle and North Yorkshire Moors Railway station: Find out more.
Beautiful Beaches – If you want to simply enjoy the local scenery, then Hunmanby Gap is truly gorgeous and is also a dog friendly beach, as is Cayton Bay.
Royal Yorkshire Yacht Club – Based in lovely Bridlington, the annual Regatta is an incredible site, and this year takes place on 5th August.
RSPB Bempton Cliffs – This truly incredible RSPB location is a short drive from here. With cliff top walks, a shop, exhibits and some of the best chalk cliff scenery around, it’s hard to beat: Find out more.
Car Boot Sales – If it’s Summer, then it’s time for a car boot sale or two! Lebberston Sunday Market takes place throughout the summer (check it out) and Skirlington Car Boot also takes place every Sunday.
