What To Bring With You at Wold Meadow Yurts!

If you’ve booked one of our amazing yurts, then you’ll want to know what to bring with you! This is so you can make the most of your glamping experience here in the Yorkshire Wolds. Here is our list of items to bring, and also, the facilities we provide for you for your break with us.

What is a Yurt?

Our yurts are spacious, comfy circular tents with a pointed roof, secure door and windows. They are roomy and are based within a secluded site near the village of Wold Newton.

What Clothes Do I Need to Bring?

As you know the British weather is predictable! Check the weather forecast before you pack and then bring suitable clothing with you. Your list should include

  • coats (plus hats, scarves and gloves if the weather is chilly)

  • underwear, trousers, dresses, jumpers, tee shirts

  • clothing suitable for going out for a meal at a pub or restaurant

  • one good tip we’ve picked up over the years is to pack cold weather gear in one bag or suitcase and clothing for warmer temperatures in another bag: this means you can choose which type you need more easily, rather than having everything rammed into one, untidy suitcase

  • guests often forget their chill-out gear so remember to pack slippers, an extra fleece, a hot water bottle and some extra outdoor blankets if you want to sit outside

Any other ideas?

As with all glamping sites, bring along:

  • a torch or headtorch

We are well away from street lighting so you can enjoy stargazing, but it does mean you need to be able to see if you need the loo in the middle of the night.

What About Electricals?

Most of us now own a phone so

  • bring your charger with you (and remember to take it home again!)

As we don’t have Wi-Fi if you wanted to bring a tablet or similar, we suggest you download films and entertainment before you arrive.

What Furniture is Provided?

Each yurt – we have six in total – includes a king-size bed with pillows, throws and comfortable bedding.

Do You Provide Towels?

Yes, we provide fluffy towels and bath robes.

You can always bring extra ones with you if needed.

What About Other Facilities?

We also provide an electric cool box, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery and non-breakable glasses.

Does Each Yurt Have a Hot Tub?

Yes, each yurt has its own hot tub.

Remember to bring:

  • flip flops or similar

  • extra towels

  • bathing suits, swimming trunks

What About Keeping Warm?

Each yurt also includes a log burner. You can obtain wood from us.

  • You might want to bring plenty of matches along with you.

Where Do We Eat?

We provide each yurt with:

  • a private patio area

  • and a bistro table and chairs

  • your own fire pit and BBQ.

  • we also provide some magical outdoor lighting

From Spring 2022 we will also have in place a communal kitchen for you to use and share with other guests. You will find basic items in there so you might want to bring spare tea towels, extra washing up liquid and perhaps additional cooking items if you want to cook onsite. If not, there are plenty of places in Filey, Scarborough and Bridlington that offer great food. You are always advised to book a table. If you are planning to order takeaways, then it’s worth checking which offer a delivery service. Nearby takeaways include Spinners in Hunmanby and China China also in Hunmanby. There is also The Anvil pub in the heart of Wold Newton village, just a few minutes’ walk away.

What About Showers?

Each Yurt has its own personal designated shower, toilet and sink in the amenity block.

What About Food and Drink?

Bring tea, coffee and milk with you. Some good tips include:

  • bringing spare water bottles so you can refill these when you need them

  • don’t fall out over the lack of cooking oil or table sauces – bring these with you

  • and marshmallows, Smores and skewers are a must! You can melt these over your firepit

You can bring your own food with you and use our facilities

And because you’re on holidays, don’t forget;

  • your favourite tipple (and a corkscrew!

  • a good book or something to read

  • puzzle books if that’s your thing

  • a pack of cards

  • board games

  • wildlife identification guides

  • binoculars so you can see the wildlife and the stars at night

What About Activities?

You might want to chill out and stay on site, which is great.

Or you might want to bring walking gear, running gear, cycling stuff, even wellington boots if you want to explore the countryside. If it rains, then bring extra socks with you … no-one likes cold feet! If you love walking remember to bring backpacks with you and it’s always advisable to bring a hard copy map of the area you want to explore. Phones don’t always have a signal in remote areas.

Anything Else?

There is always the risk of under packing and overpacking … under pack, and you end up scouring the local towns for forgotten items. This is not ideal particularly if you arrive late at night and the shops are closed. Then of course you can end up bringing too much! One of the best ways to reduce clutter during your stay is to stash unwanted items in your car. As a rule of thumb, having a handy list of items, based on the above advice, should help you bring everything you need.
