While Summer is traditionally THE time for festivals, the Autumn is also thronging with things to do. From September onwards, there are festivals taking place throughout the season. Filey International Food Festival takes place on 15th and 16th October. This foodie event is a must for food lovers. With a global theme, there are stalls galore offering anything from artisan olive oil to freshly made cakes (https://www.facebook.com/FileyFoodDrinkFestival/).

The Great Outdoors
The leaves might be falling from the branches of trees, yet it’s a lovely time to enjoy the great outdoors! Autumn is so colourful here in the Yorkshire Wolds. Autumn’s rich tints of red, gold and amber make for some spectacular scenes. We are spoilt for choice for outdoor venues in our area. Dalby Forest is spectacular and is a car drive away. The North York Moors National Park also has scores of walks, a visitor centre and more (https://www.northyorkmoors.org.uk). Filey Brigg is stunning (take care with the tide, though). Scarborough boasts its sweeping Marine Drive which links the South and the North Bays. Keep an eye out for conkers on the ground and the wildlife starting to prepare for winter. Squirrels start to scrabble around hiding away their winter stores of acorns and other goodies ready for the cold weather.
Places to Eat
One of the joys of a short break is time away from the kitchen! Whether it’s a pub lunch, a takeaway or a fine dining experience, there are plenty of places to book a table and enjoy a culinary treat. Fish and chips are a must on the coast and the towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington have a great choice of fish and chip shops. And being on the coast means you must have an ice cream! There are some fine dining eateries nearby where you will need to book a table. These include The Farrier in Cayton and the Copper Horse in Seamer (https://www.discoveryorkshirecoast.com/scarborough/food-and-drink).
What To Bring With You This Autumn
As with any glamping break, you need to be prepared with lots of warm clothes, extra rugs, a hot water bottle, scarves, hats and gloves. We tend to have a good September and October so you can layer up or layer down as needed. Other items you might want to borrow and/or bring include binoculars, your smart phone (for photos, please note, no Wi-Fi onsite here at Wold Newton), proper maps for your walks, a flask for a hot drink and your walking gear.
Looking Ahead to 2023
Before we know it, Christmas and the New Year will be here. It will be a different festive season as our late Queen will not be giving her speech this year. King Charles III will be in the ‘hot seat’ instead. This leads us nicely onto the prospect of the King’s Coronation, which at the time of writing has not been announced. Many people are thinking it will be in the Spring or in early June, which might tie in with the 70th anniversary of our Queen’s Coronation of 1953. Therefore, there is bound to be a long Bank Holiday weekend either in addition or replacing one of the dates, below. Key dates next year include Good Friday 7th April followed by the Easter weekend; May Day on Monday 1st May (the first time it’s fallen on the traditional May Day in several years); Late Spring Bank on Monday 29th May; August Bank Holiday on Monday 28th August. Book your 2023 break today!
